Caldervale does it again !!!!

Again we were the ONLY area to get a specific mention by the Councillors for our outstanding FOL display this year!!

Well Done Everyone !

Hello folks

What a great 5 days i would like to thank everybody for there time and effort in putting a brilliant street on again we where the best by far you should all be proud to be WONKA'S

Robin and Janet

Just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone in Caldervale who attended the FOL. It was difficult for both Mike and myself to come out with our recent personal experiences and you gave us such support and encouragement - only to be expected from Caldervale members!! We will continue to be out with you all as much as we can.

The FOL itself was great, as always, although very damp on occasion and again CVSY's display was fantastic!!! I think Mike took some photos and I will encourage him to email them through if they are any good, although i should imagine Richard will have tons!

Once again, thank you all so much for your friendship. It means a lot! See you at Hatfield (single woman seeks caravanning buddies .... where is 20 foot Dick when you want him!!!).

Take care till then. Lorraine & Mike x

Hi All.

We are just back from a wonderful FOL with Caldervale. I don’t really know where to start. (Try Friday Dunc, That’s when the meet started you Wonka.)

We arrived on Site at around 11.30 to be greeted by Robin & Janet with a cuppa. We needed it after going over what can only be described as a white knuckle ride on the way in to the site. (Bottomed my van on the way out and cracked the rear panel. S##T)

Well It was up with the awnings, Whilst the kids went for some water. Yes you guessed it, The usual FOL first on site Queue for water. (Nearly an hour for some, I can p##s faster)

All that done and off we went to book in at the marquee. Not to far away this year. We are going up in the world. (Tagged on to the end of the Management lines) A warm welcome was offered by Lincolnshire as we booked in and had the complimentary cuppa. After a Quick scout around it was back to the van and off to the local Tesco for some provisions.( Lager, Wine, Lager & a loaf to soak it up) In the evening a few of us went in to the marquee to sample the goods in the beer tent and watch the entertainment. I think we had a good night for what I can remember. (Not drunk just a long time ago)(Yeh Whatever I hear you say)

Saturday morning and the weather is fine. We had a quick meeting to decide how to set the street out as the organisers in there wisdom had put a road right through the middle of our lines. We decided to only use the first half of the line as the road would spoil the effect. Not the ideal situation as it made some feel “a bit out of it”. I can understand that and hope it didn’t spoil it for you.

When Caldervale gets going, Caldervale sure gets going. The street started to take shape in no time. Up went the banner at the front followed by Richard & Barrie’s Wonka entrance.( Most affective as you can see from the photos.) Then came the Chocolate Factory, Steve & Sharon’s Goose that lied the golden egg, Richard & Miranda’s TV room then our Chocolate fountain& wishing well. In between the larger features were all the other bits and bobs that every body had worked so hard on. Giant sweets, giant mushrooms, giant flowers, illuminated signs.  We also trimmed the cheap end of the street (Sorry) to carry on the effect. All in all it looked a treat.

As darkness fell a strange breed of people started to emerge from the vans. It was The Umparlumpars. As you can see from the photos it was a sight to behold. What an impact. As darkness fell the whole street lit up and the other campers started to file through to look at our efforts. We dished out candy sticks, lolly pops, chocolate marshmallows and tons of sweets. What a show. The wishing well raised over £ 60-00 for the Air Ambulance. Well done for that Janet.

Someone said that it had rained but I didn’t notice it. (Much) Well done to you all. What a team.

When God created Sunday he obviously didn’t know about Caldervale. Day of rest? Yeh right. Up early to take it all down. What a shame all that hard work ends up in a skip. (We need a warehouse). The street was clear in no time. The god squad went to pray for fine weather (can I call them that? Letters of complaint to me please) and at 11-00 some of us went to the new style members meeting to have our say.

We had decided to have a bit of a party in the little tent so a few of us went out to get some of the old falling down water to help things along. When we got back we put up the tent outside our awning in the cheap end. Once again what a spread. A feast fit for a king.(But Moody couldn’t come so we ate it) Ted did his usual entertaining with his blow and suck thing. (got to call it that because I cant spell harmonica). Not to be out done Mr Wonka got his penny whistle out. We are thinking of doing a duet next time but Ted needs to get a little better first. (Sorry Ted)  Another top night. So that was our day of rest. (never stopped from start to finish)

Monday and time to relax. Went up to The testical clinic (did I spell that right?) Hosted by Mike Fryer. His last one as he is standing down at the end of the season. After that just time to dress up again for the closing ceremony. The Umparlumpars were out in force again led by the bloke with the big hat. Rain spoiled the Pennon parade unfortunately. (That’s one good reason to Join Caldervale. One of the first in The marquee. Out of the rain and best seats)

After the closing ceremony Janet decided to take a shower out side her awning much to our amusement. Nice one Robin. A classic. Robin hosted  a coffee afternoon in the tent with all the usual announcements and Banta .

That evening a few of us went into the marquee to watch the entertainment. A few drinks and  a good laugh made a nice last night.

Tuesday morning and time to pack up. We (The family) and a few friends were moving on to Wainfleet for the rest off the week so only a short journey for us.

All in all this has been another brilliant meet. For those who couldn’t attend you missed a treat and you can be sure we all flew the flag for our area. Well done to you all. I can’t wait for next year.

I don’t want to bore you all with our Wainfleet holiday so I will condense it.
