SOCIAL SATURDAY NIGHT
Hello to you all.
I would like to thank Duncan & Sandra and all their helpers for a great weekend and to all the people who and made the weekend a great success we raised a far bit of money towards The Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The weather started off on Friday in a downpour they got wet putting up the tent. Saturday morning was dull then the sun came out and it was warm, Sunday was the same dull then very warm so in all we all had a great weekend.
Robin and Janet.
Hi Again
This weekend we have been at Cherry Tree Farm in Hatfield Woodhouse. The Stewards for this weekend were The handsome bloke and his family. (I don’t mean my Dad). When Sandra & myself arrived on site on Friday morning the weather was a bit dull but it was dry. Dum & Mad and our Sandra were all ready on site so It was Bacon sarnies all round after setting up.
After putting the signs out we decided to put the little tent up to do the Welcome tea and coffee in. Kieth decided to flatten the grass so off he went up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down ( do you get the picture yet?) Yes after about an hour and a gallon of diesel he was finished. Thanks for that Keith. A good job well done. It did make a difference.
About 12-00 we had a few vans on and the rain started to fall. Not to worry. We had the little colander (or do I mean tent?) to sit in. With the good old stiff upper lip I decided to put the big tent up to save a job on Saturday. As usual with Caldervale as soon as I started with my erection I ended up with a team to give me a hand with it. (Can I say that? You all have dirty minds) The weather was wet to say the least. But we had the job done in no time. Thanks go to Keith, Barrie. Arthur & Ted for getting slightly wet with me. A job well done. By the end of the afternoon we had 16 vans on site, another one on Saturday afternoon made 17 all together. Not a bad turn out with the bad weather . Friday night and the usual crew of Alco’s went to the local watering hole for a few cups of Tea. (Yeh Right).
Saturday morning and the weather was dull but no rain. The field was still very wet in the long grass. We had loads to do to set up for the fund raising afternoon. As usual again, when we all get stuck in it doesn’t take long. We planed to start at 1-00pm and right on queue the sun started to shine. What a wonderful afternoon we had. With the BBQ, all the stalls and the raffle we made just over £200-00 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Well done to you all. To make that much from only 17 vans and a few visitors is unbelievable.
Just time for a bite to eat and a rest before the Social run by the handsome bloke & his wife. (No not Mum & Dad) . It all seamed to go down well. With a few Quizzes and The American supper. The bloke with the mouth organ turned up again so I gave him his moment of fame. When I saw him struggling to keep the audience I thought id better give him some backing with my instrument .Sandra told me to put it away so I got my Whistle out instead. If we go on like this Ted we might get on the X Factor. What would Simon Cowel make of us? He would probably say one of us is crap and is spoiling it for the other. I will leave it at that. Nice one Ted. Thanks again.
Sunday morning and still damp but no rain. Coffee morning was held at 11-00 as usual. Afterwards it was all hands to the pumps to get the Tent down and clear up so we could sit and enjoy the afternoon sun. All in all I think things went well and meet was enjoyed by most. This kind off meet could not go ahead without the help of a lot of people. Well done to you all. You know who you are. Thanks for all your hard work.
See you all soon I hope
Duncan & Sandra
Hello again, where do I begin, arived Friday weather fine , had a usual cuppa with our stewards, guess what? It started to rain, now that's not on at all, we just are not used to it.We got set up (in the rain), Duncan decided to put up the big tent( the rain wasn't too bad )It got heavier but we kept going ,we were already too wet to worry now.In the evening five brave soals managed to get to the pub to wet the inside(well we were already wet on the outside).Sunday dawned misty, then turned out fine and warm and everyone started preparing for the afternoon fun,and that went very well indeed, everyone had a good time ,we spent all our hard earned pensions on the games and had a feast with the HOTDOGS & BURGERS, them that still work (not many)also spent their hard earned cash.
We had a number of visitors who came to help in the fun, and we managed to raise about £200.00 for the AIR AMBULANCE, WELL DONE EVERYONE.(we will have to beat that next year). We had another good evening in the tent with our host Duncan, some of us won prizes but with a little help from Ted,Duncan showed us that he is getting better each week on the flute,I don't know how Sandra puts up with him at home, she must turn off her hearing aid I think,(only joking Sandra)(help).Sunday morning we had our usual Coffee morning and fee paying gathering, then it was down with the tent so that Duncan could dash off to the Speedway meet, hope you had a good time Duncan?I went a walk with Robin after that and didn't bother putting on my boots but went in wellies, well, after we got to
Thorne(nearly) I was beginning to feel the blisters rising, but got back OK.
Might have to miss Golf on Monday morning(that would be terible so I think pride must suffer) I will let you know next weekend at Eckington.A big thank you to our stewards Sandra & Duncan and all who helped make it a good weekend again.
See you all next weekend. Barrie & Joan.
