Committee meeting at 6pm saturday evening
Eckington October 26th-28th, Friday and Saturday mainly dull but fine, very quiet weekend with only 8 vans out, no girls football team playing Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon Jack and I took Audrey and Albert to Crystal Peaks shopping centre, it was busy but warm and indoors. Brenda & Peter went to the not so nice Eckington village and found a new cut price shop called JOB LOT. Lorraine,
Mike & Mathew came at 10am on Saturday for the committee meeting but 8hrs. early so after a cuppa went away. Although 5 units did not come this year that came in 2006, 2 did come who had not been before. Saturday evening 14 of us had a pool competition with Peter Guy the winner of £7 which he readily donated to the AIR AMBULANCE Barrie Webb was runner up (YOU LEAVE WITH NOTHING )
Margaret & Jack Mithell.
Hi there, just back from our weekend meet at Eckington hosted by Margaret& Jack. When I arrived on Friday afternoon most of those who came were there enjoying the dry weather, a bit cool though and not warm enough to sit out in.Friday evening we had a get together in the on site bar.No planned social but who needs organizing to have a good time. Saturday was again fine and Duncan & me went for a game of golf. Duncan played well but I was of form and on the first half put some(about 10 ) balls into the pond. Still I enjoyed it and should only improve next time. Some of the ladies went shopping as usual, and some went to Cristal Peaks. We had a committee meeting Saturday evening where all went well with no problems arrising.
Saturday evening after the meeting we again went into the bar and had a game of pool in the form of a knock out,It started of with all the coloured balls on the table but after the first round we decided that it we didn't take off some of the balls at the start we would still be there now. After much bending of the rules we managed to finish the game with Peter Guy winning after I fouled on the black ball.A good evenings entertainment and laugh, then Peter kindly donated his winnings of £7 to the Air Ambulance.Sunday morning it spoiled itselfand rained, but we had the hall for our coffee morning . By the time it was time to go home the sun started to shine again but it was too late then. Thanks to Margaret & Jack for running the weekend and to Margaret for her weekend report.(lets have more)
See you all at the BONFIRE weekend
Joan & Barrie.
Hello to you all
This week we have been to Eckington Cricket Club with our hosts Margaret & Jack. 8 Vans in total this time. Not bad for a late meet. As Usual a warm welcome was had by all. Tea & Coffee in the lovely surroundings of the club on site that we had exclusive use of throughout the weekend.
On Friday night we all got together for a dram or two in the club house. Once again a very nice night with good company. You cant ask for more than that to end a stressful week at work. ( Can you oldies remember what stress is?)
Saturday morning and the weather was fairly dull but quite mild and most importantly DRY. It was off to the Golf course for Barrie & me. I hadn’t played for a few weeks so I was looking forward to it. I wasn’t disappointed. Probably my best game ever. Including the one with the Hole in One. Did I mention that I once got a hole in one? I’m sure I did. I’m still trying to get my score under 100 for 18 holes. Nearly did it this time with 101. I won’t mention that Barrie put at least 10, yes 10 balls in the lake. To be fair he was going for a shot that Tiger Woods would have been proud of. All In all a cracking game. Thanks Barrie. We arrived back on site to find the much depleted shopping team had gone off to track down the local stores to get there fix.
After tea it was time for the serious stuff. We held the Committee meeting in the club at 6.00. If you are interested in what went off just give me a shout and I will be glad to give you a copy of the minuets which I have with me every weekend.
After the meeting we had another get together in the club house. More booze and chat. I organised a Pool knockout which everybody took part in. It became clear in the first round that if I didn’t reduce the number of balls that we would be still playing when the clocks went back. I did that and all was well. The rules were simple. If a ball was in your way, Move it by fair means or foul. Well at the end of the night we all had had a good one I think. Mr Peter the quiz Guy came out the victor, Beating Barrie in the final. We all Put 50p in the pot for the winner which Peter donated straight to the Air Ambulance. Another £7.00 to the cause. Thanks for that Peter. (And you can’t stop giving us your Quizzes. What would we complain about?)
Sunday morning came and we all emerged fresh and rearing to go after the extra hour in bed with the clocks going back.
The trouble was it was not very dry. The coffee morning was at the usual time of 11.00. All the usual stuff. About 16 van prizes.
Not bad for 8 vans. I filled the gathered throng in regarding what happened in the committee meeting the night before.
We emerged from the club house to find that the weather had done the usual thing of clearing up just when we all had to go home.
Well at least we didn’t get wet packing up.
Once again a brilliant weekend with Caldervale. I know that this site is a fair trek for some of you, but you need to try it. Nice short grass (Cricket Pitch) Exclusive use of the Club House.(Including the Bar) And top company. What more can you ask?
Well done to Jack & Margaret for another entertaining weekend. Keep it up.
We hope to see you all at the Bonfire Meet next week. I’m sure it will go off with a BANG. (Pardon the pun)
All the best
Duncan.
