Bonfire meet bring one large firework and donations for supper in barn on saturday night after bonfire. Always a great weekend.
Hello to you all.
Well that’s it for another year. What will we do? Just home from the Bonfire meet at Gleeb Farm. 16 units this time. A good turn out. The weather helped. 3 days of lovely weather. Its not often that you can sit out for a cuppa in November. We arrived on Thursday night along with a few others. Charlie rolled up about 7.30 with a wagon load of wood for the fire. Thanks must got to him for all his hard work. The preparation for this meet started on Wednesday night when he loaded the wagon. I know that took him at least a couple of hours. Then he took time out on Thursday night to Drive to the site to un load it. Thanks Charlie. It is appreciated. On Friday morning Dad , Tony and me made a start building the fire. We left a bit for the others to do later on in the day on account of that we were knackered. Thanks to all who helped. Friday night and we all stayed on site.( No Pubs within walking distance).
On Saturday morning a few of the Golf Society went off for a quick 9 holes whilst the shopping team did the rounds of the local shops.
When all was back safely on site we just had time for a cuppa then another cuppa and then yes you guessed it another cuppa before getting ready for the bonfire and supper.
At 6-30 Barrie lit the Fire whilst Steve & myself set off the fireworks. A Lovely night for it, mild with a clear sky. Afterwards it was down to the barn for the supper. Another feast, with soup, Hot dogs, Spuds and all the usual parkin, buns and toffee etc. All washed down with a cuppa for a change. What a good night we all had. It must have been good because when I woke up on Sunday morning, once again I couldn’t remember the last part of Saturday night. I think that it must be something about Glebe Farm that gives me memory loss. (Read my previous Glebe Farm report! ). Well Sunday morning it was, and time to do a bit of sorting out in the barn for the coffee morning. As usual we all got together at 11-00 to pay our site fees etc. We Did the raffle draw which made enough to cover our expenses for the spuds and sausages etc, with the surplus going to the farmers charity.
It was very nice to see some visitors on site that have been out with us a few times over the last few seasons. We had some very nice comments about our area being very welcoming.
I think the new idea regarding Fireworks worked well. I spent £153.00 on them and received £155.00 in donations from Caldervale members and visitors on the night. (The £2.00 surplus went to the farmer’s charity) We will do it again next year.
In total after a donation from our club funds we donated £22.00 to The farmers charity which is The Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
I say this every year and make no apologies for saying it again, A meet like this would not be possible if it wasn’t for the hard work of a lot of people. What a team. I know that our visitors will go back and tell others about the great weekend that Caldervale has given them. Well done to you all.
Well that’s about it from me for another season. Wait a minute. We still have the Dinner next week. So as the big bloke with the hard to spell name once said, I’ll be back.
See you all soon.
Duncan
PS Hope Barrie has sent some decent photos in from the barn. My phone camera is not good in low light.
Hello everyone, well we have just finished our last meet of the season
AhAhAh,never mind we have had a good year, a dry bright start, then very wet, then a fantastic end to the season. Who could ask for better weather for Bonfire night, bright, dry, warm, and no wind.Nice to see visitors again & hope to see you out next year. Friday night was stay at home time, then Saturday the golfers went off to have a game and the shoppers went off shopping and to get things for the evening(spuds, rolls, sausages etc.) The bonfire was lit at about 6-30pm and was soon making people move away,a big thank you to Charley for all the wood and for delivering it.
Duncan & Steve then lit the fireworks and what a show, I always enjoy a good display. Then it was off to the Barn for the rest of the evening with so much to eat, that was all I seemed to do all evening. Thanks to Robin for cooking the sausages and for burning Sandra's (as requested) thanks to all the Neale familly for all the work putting the food on especially Iris for her soup concoction (great).
Sunday morning was coffee morning to pay our site fees and try to eat what was left from Saturday evening. We had a raffle to help pay for the costs of the weekend, thanks to all who donated prizes and to those who bought tickets. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did and hope to see you at the diner next weekend. To those I don't see I wish you all the best for Christmas and NewYear, we are not able to go to Crigleston for the social as we will be in London at the Albert Hall for a Carol service. It could well be on telly so watch out for us.
See you all next year on our winter walk, take care and have a good Christmas.
Regards Joan & Barrie
