Many thanks to Iris and Ivan for a great weekend it was very nice to see so many vans out 15 including visitors.
Got there Friday night then to the pub. Saturday the weather was very nice to us a little breezy but was great for paper plane throwing sorry to Barrie but my delta wing concord went the farthest. Saturday night the future youth arrived our grandson for the night he slept all night.
Sunday morning was wet but after coffee morning the rain stopped and the sun came. so again thanks to the stewards and Duncan don't be a tight sod and get Sandra her van.
Robin and Janet.
The Future Youth of Caldervale ??? !!
This week it was Mum & Dads first meet of the season Stewarding Woodland View at Hoylandswaine.
What a wonderful sight when we arrived to find 13 vans already pitched, Add to that us, and Sharron & Steve, 15 in total, The best turnout so far. After pitching it was a quick cuppa with mum & dad then a bite to eat before meeting a few others in The Lord Nelson for a drink or 3. Stimulating conversation, a nice drink, Good Company was just what the doctor ordered. Instead we had to put up with Charlie. Well you cant have it all I suppose. (Only joking mate) Thanks for a good night to all who attended.
Saturday came and the weather was quite kind but for the wind. ( I think it was due to the Pie & peas we had for tea the night before) Sandra And I went off site for a few hours to have the old peepers tested. What a rip off that is. £200.00 for frames, £140 for lenses. I don’t think so. Give me the cheep ones. (Tight wad, that’s me)
When we arrived back on site I got my head down for an hour before the big event of the afternoon. Mum & Dad had decided to resurrect Paper aeroplane flying. We all got to work with our bits of paper, then the assembled masses battled against the wind to see whose contraption would fly the longest. Barrie was leading for most of the time, and then came the Wright brother’s entry. (Robin)
It flew like a bird. (Well more like a piece of paper with a few folds in it actually but like a bird sounds better.) Well done Rob. Mine would have won if the wind hadn’t have been so strong obviously. All In all we had a good laugh for half an hour which is what it’s all about.
This weekend also saw Aaron pitch his tent to spend his first night alone under canvas.( see photo) Well done, many more to come I hope. After tea I was challenged to a game of Boules by Aaron and Michael. No competition. The old one won. (You need more practice lads). A Quiet night in was in store as we both fell asleep and before we knew it, it was time to wake up to go to sleep. (Well I know what I mean).
Sunday morning came and so did the rain. Coffee morning was at 11.00 as usual. The entire site gathered to listen to my Drivel in the Drizzle. (You didn’t know I was a poet as well did you). After coffee it was back to the van to watch the Grand Prix before setting off home at about 3.30.
Thanks must go to Mum & Dad (Iris & Ivan, Dum & Mad, what ever you call them) for another great weekend. Looking forward to the next one already.
See you at Wighill.
Duncan.
Hello again, back from another weekend this time at Hoylandswain hosted by Iris & Ivan. After our arrival on Friday I had to go to a funeral so I left Joan to entertain herself for a few hours. When I got back I was surprised to see the site, we had more than 4 vans on the field, what a nice sight, we ended up with 14 (very good).Friday evening we stayed on site while a number went to the local for a quick half (well that's what they told me).
On Saturday Iris decided that we would have a paper plane flying comp. With a strong wind blowing we all gathered,I thought I was going to win but the champ turned out to be Robin (2weeks in a row,we will have to put an end to it soon) As you can see from the pics. We created a lot of litter and had to have a 2nd world war scamble to get our planes.I think we all enjoyed it and will have to hope for less wind the next time then we can have a proper gliding comp.instead of being blown off course.Saturday night Arron spent his first night in his tent,WELL DONE ,he got a little wet but that wasn't surprising with all the rain that came down.
Sunday morning after what looked like being a wet coffee morning was not too bad . The weather got better and we finished off the weekend sat in the SUN. We just got home and once again it started to rain but by then we weren't bothered we had enjoyed a great meet thanks to IRIS & IVAN. See you next weekend (don't forget your clubs lads, sorry Duncan)
Bye for now Barrie
