Hi there, just managed to find time after a great bankholiday weekend at Wighill to say thanks to everyone for a good time, especially iris & Ivan our stewards helped by the gang.

Although the weather started a bit cool we finshed off so good that we didn't want to go home on Tuesday. We managed to get our marquees up on Friday evening so that we had all day Saturday to do nothing much until Saturday evening when we were entertained by Duncan, with the main event being MR. & MRS. I think we all enjoyed that even if we didn't take part, we got to know things about our contestants that we didn't know before (come to think about it I don't think they knew too much about each other). We did eventually have winners but I think they were all winners when they put themselves up for a bit of mickey taking. Well done to you all.

Sunday after coffee morning the golf gang went for a round and left Duncan and gang to have a knockout at boules. Both events went off well. I don't know who won at boules but I understand everyone who took part enjoyed themselves. It was nice to see the kids enjoying themselves and thanks again to Duncan for thinking up things for them to do to entertain themselves.
Well that's about all for now we won't see you next weekend , hope the weather is kind again for you all.

See you at the AGM.  Bye for now
Barrie & Joan.

Well where do I start. (Try the beginning Dunc).

This week we have been to Wighill Manor farm for the May Bank Holiday. The Neale Clan hosting as usual for this meet.
We arrived on site on Wednesday evening in what can only be described as diabolical weather. The heavens opened to say the least. As you can see from the photos the entrance was thick with mud. We managed to get on but we knew we were going to have a problem when all the other vans started to arrive on Thursday.

Thursday morning came and the weather had cleared a little. We managed to get my awning up before the first van arrived at about 1.00pm. He managed to get through the mud but it was obvious that we had a problem. After asking the land owner we decided it would be best to close this entrance and re direct to another part of the field. Problem solved.
We had a steady flow throughout the day finishing with about 9 vans by the end of Thursday.

Friday was another mostly fine day with the odd light shower. Again the vans started to arrive. The first at 8.45am believe it or not. All vans were welcomed in the usual Caldervale manner, with a smile and a chat followed by the welcome cuppa. By the end of Friday we had 26 on site. Not as many as I had expected to be honest but I think that the early weather put a few off. Barrie and I decided to make a start on the two marquees that needed putting up. To be honest Barrie did most of the work as he was making sure that I didn’t do too much. (Bleedin Hernia)  With help from a few others the job was done in no time. A big thanks go to all involved.

Saturday morning and the sun was shining. Richard arrived to make the final total 27 units. At 1.00pm it was time for the Cheese & Wine party. A good turn out of members and guests alike. We had the usual very expensive selection of White, Rose’ and Red wine and a selection of fine cheese and biscuits from around the world. ( Well from around Morrison’s actually but don’t tell any one) Janet had her hand crafted cards on sale. (I think she gets them from Clintons and rubs the name out, but don’t tell her) Well done to her as she made Just under £24.00 quid for The Air Ambulance. You’re a star. The party finished at about 3.30. I remember it well as I was the only one who was sober.( Believe that and you will believe that Charlie is good at golf). I think that we all had a brill afternoon. The land owner had a wedding Reception arranged for that afternoon on the field just in the entrance to his farm. Much to our surprise we heard that Prince Harry was to be attending. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and speak to him. I asked him for a photo but he had to say no for security reasons. He apologised, shook my hand and wished us a nice night. A little later on a few more of us saw him close up. Not often that you can say you came face to face with Royalty on a Caldervale meet.

After a quick kip and a bite to eat, It was time for the Social hosted by my Beautiful assistant and me.(actually Steve couldn’t do it so Sandra stepped in) (Only joking Love) A quiz or two, A feast of a supper and a Game of Mr & Mrs was the order of the night. Thanks go to all the contestants. Without you it wouldn’t have happened. Well done to Pauline & Chris (Guests) on winning the Mr  & Mrs.comp. I think that we had a good night. Like I always say, If I enjoy doing the social, I get the feeling that the members have enjoyed it as well.
Sunday morning and the weather was fine for the Coffee morning. We all assembled in the tent to listen to my ramblings once again. After the usual announcements and raffle draw, the Golf society went for a round of the course near York.( DO I LOOK BOTHERED?)

We had arranged a Boules knockout for the afternoon which was held in the marquee, as the rain started to fall. When I say fall I actually mean fall. It Pi---d it down. Well we still had a very good afternoon. Well done to John (Another Guest) who won the Final.

Sunday Night was Hazel & Keiths turn to entertain us all. And what a good job they did. Bingo to start then a game of Coytes.(Don’t think that’s spelt correctly, but you know what I mean. Rope ring thrown over numbered pegs) Well done to Dad (Ivan) who beat Roy in the Play off. After the Supper we just had time for a Quiz which was won for the Kids by Kyle and Charlie &
Robins team for the adults. All in all another top night. Thanks Hazel & Keith for taking time out to put it on.

Monday Morning came and the sun was shining. This was our last day as we have to work on Tuesday. A busy day ahead, packing up all our things as well as doing what I could to help taking both tents down. Once again the job was done in no time with the help of a lot of people. Thanks.

This has been another very successful meet. Thanks must go to all who have contributed in any way. We had a lot of praise for our area from a lot of guests. Well done to everybody.
  See you all soon

Duncan.

Hello Everyone,

Well - Just getting back in from another brilliant weekend. Many thanks must go to Duncan, Sandra, Hazel and Keith for their very entertaining quizzes and games,

Saturday we arrived onsite and after the usual warm welcome we got our selves pitched up and sorted out. Just in time for the Cheese and Wine party at lunch. Which went down a storm like always. That was rapidly followed by one of Duncan's legendary socials in the evening. Mr & Mrs, Kids Treasure hunt, whose in the picture and name the logo quizzes not to mention Bingo - kept us all busy for a very enjoyable evening, even if our noisy neighbours didnt stick to our 11'oclock rule. Cheers Duncan.

Sunday came, a little damp but as usual a bit of dampness never stops the fun. Coffee morning, and the usual announcements, but also the judging of the kids competition - how many items can you get into a normal machbox - It was a close fought thing but Aaron won it with 48 items - Well done Aaron. After lunch the Boules tournament took place under cover inside our twin marquee, complete with our new guttering! which worked a treat, with only one problem. It gave the children a new toy. Lots of flowing water to play with but they enjoyed themselves as you can see from the photos below. Duncan was kept busy thru the competition running round with his tape, There were a few critical moments when he had to get down on hands and knees, checking to the nearest millimeter! We almost didnt notice the rain on Sunday, excepting for the kids all coming back in looking like dround rats!.

Sunday Evening and Keith took charge of the mike. Oh no Bingo again! followed by Keiths very easy quiz, What is the Capital of Brazil, Which King had his head cut off, Who painted the Mona Lisa, You get the idea! I only got 25 out of 30, but the winner managed 27 - Well done Charles! Shame you didnt get the prize a bottle of wine - that stopped at his wifes table! Then the real competition - coits! Two rounds, best score wins and everyone joined in, It came down to a tie, but then the winner showed his true form - nice work Ivan!

Monday Morning and after a cloudy start the sun soon burnt through and soon everything was nice and dry. Down came the Marquee's, and off to storage.
Then the final part of the weekend, the only part I dont enjoy - packing up and going home.

Thanks again to all those involved in making this such an enjoyable weekend.
See you all again soon
      Richard, Michael and Aaron.
