National Camping and Caravanning Week

We've just got home from york cricket and rugby club and have had a wonderful week, mixed weather but that didn't phase us we really enjoyed ourselves so much so we've bought a tent. It's just a small one but we all have to start somewhere and were starting with a tent and a toilet so if anyone has anything for sale please let us know. thanks to everyone involved for a great week and see you soon,

Debz, Matt and sammy xx

Hi All, Just a few lines to thank everyone for all their help this week whilst we were at York Rugby Club.We had a fantastic week and are already looking forward to going back again next year. What a great mixture of shops at the various retail parks, I didn't even need to go into York to get my usual fix!

Unfortunately Dad was not well towards the end of the holiday so it was thanks to Sharron, Joan, Steve, Barrie and Richard that we were able to get ready and go home on the Saturday with me towing Dads unit and Deba being brave and towing mine. Thankyou all we couldn't have done it without your help both in babysitting Sam and helping mum.

Dad been to the doctors and although feeling a little better he has had to be referred to the hospital, watch this space!
Well best go now and prepare for setting off again in a couple of days to go to Misterton. See you on the field.

love Sandra

Hi all this is our very first stay with BCC and i can tell you it was fantastic. We were made to feel welcome and every one was so helpful. We were given lots of advise and tips on where to go and what to use in our van (we only just bought our first one this year).

Thank you to everyone who made myself my husband and children have a lovely weekend and hope to see you all again soon.

Paula and Andy Johnston

 Hi all

Just back from assisting to steward the holiday meet at York Cricket & Rugby Club.   For those who couldn't make it, we have had approx 124 units throughout the ten days.  It was brilliant to see the tremendous turnout we have had with people from the length and breadth of the country camping with us.

Firstly I must thank Barrie & Joan who worked like trojans on Friday, starting at 9.30am with the first van, and not stopping until well into the evening.  Also a huge thanks to Iris & Ivan and Hazel & Keith who assisted Barrie and Joan with their enormous task, booking in, siting, offering drinks, etc.  THANKYOU from both of us.

We have enjoyed every minute of assisting with this meet in a beautiful part of the country.  York has always been a favourite haunt of ours and we never get fed up returning here.

Although we didn't think we could make it until Saturday afternoon, Steve had a reprieve from working and we arrived on site about 8pm on Friday to be greeted by a sight to behold, a field full of vans, and not much space left.  After setting up we had tea and then a couple of drinks in the club with Sandra, Duncan and Charlie before hitting the sack for the night.  Saturday dawned and more vans arrived steadily throughout the day to fill the field to near full capacity.  The golf society went on their merry way, with Duncan going along to check on Charlies progress!   In the evening Duncan and Sandra hosted the social with Duncan having to be extra careful with his choice of words due to Lewis reminding him at regular intervals about his WANGUAGE.  ( I think we could have a future chairman in Lewis).  Couple of bingo games and quizzes with jokes as corny as ever from mine host Duncan, and American supper.  All in all a very enjoyable night.   Thanks to Duncan and Sandra.  Sunday morning was coffee morning and yet again some of the golfers went on their merry way again, leaving the rest of us to watch the Grand Prix and chill on site.   Some of us ladies went off shopping for essentials which we needed and the vans still kept on coming.  Sunday evening was Barries social assisted by Richard.  The bingo machine came out with technology straight from GALA introduced into the Caldervale area.  Very clever Barrie and Richard, it also means no more cheating when checking your own tickets and  I think the competition is on between you two and Duncan for the next social!!  Thanks Barrie, another enjoyable evening.

Monday and the tent came down after which us ladies HAD to go out for more essentials (We don't half need to shop when we're caravanning)!!    Steve and myself walked into York a couple of times through the week, and also had a stroll in with Duncan and Sandra one evening where we had a leisurely drink and wobbled back without falling into the river (thats a big achievement for me I can tell you!)   Also the shops in and around York are now restocking after the ladies have blitzed them.  We'll be back next year!!

Once again, thanks to everyone who came along and supported and assisted with the meet.  See you all next week hopefully at Misterton.

Sharron & Steve xx

Hi all, late as usual but I have an excuse, I have just finished the paperwork for the meet and taken it to Robin so he can pay the site fees. Also taken the 2nd tent to Duncan for storage. All go but after such a fantastic meet I don't mind.

We opened the site on Fridayand our first van arrived at 9-30 then they kept coming until evening. When we finished that evening we had 80 units on site, I DON'T BELIEVE IT. We managed to put up the tents on Saturday morning ready for our social in the evening hosted by Duncan, I think everyone enjoyed themselves I didn't get many  ( any ) of his music questions but had fun trying. The american supper went down well as usual. We had some of our visitors in and I think they have gone away thinking we are a strange lot but they came back for our second social on Sunday so we can't be that bad.

At our Sunday social we drew the raffle numbers which was for the Air Ambulance and we raised about £40. We played Bingo with my new version and it seemed to go down well with most, Duncan now wants a copy , no problem I'm sure we can manage that. We had our supper and a game of OY. Time flies when your having fun and the evening was soon over. Thanks to all who came and joined in and hope you will join us again. Monday morning we took down the tents and I brought them home out of the way. Our ladies had to do a lot of shopping through out the week and the golfers managed a game or two. We went into York on Tuesday and after a walk round town we decided to go into the Viking Center and had to queue for about 40 minutes, then we could sit down and be transported back in time on the monorail, a very good trip it was too.

On Saturday morning I took Richard and my two grandchildren into the railway museum and went on the big wheel, Richard doesn't like heights but I managed to persuade him that it wasn't that bad ( please see photo ) He was fine till the pod started to move then things weren’t so good but he stuck it out WELL DONE. We got some good pictures.

Sunday and the meet was finally at an end  My thanks to all who helped especially Iris & Ivan,Sandra,Keith & Hazel and to all who came and helped us have a good meet, Hope to see you next year till then GOOD CAMPING

Barrie & Joan.

Hi Everyone, What a weekend ! - Arriving on site earlier than expected on Friday, pulled up just over the brow of the defence wall, and holly moly - So many vans !

Saturday, The Golf Society did their usual vanashing trick, then Duncan did his usual good work with another of his legendary socials. I also contacted the C&CC with our tally count of campers towards their world record attempt. I will keep you informed.. Sunday the wind gained force a little but that didnt stop units arriving by the end of sunday we had over 80 units on site! In the morning a good Coffee Morning followed by a walk down into York, to catch the many displays The Sword Dancers were very impressive especially the group that lifted one of their colleugues high in the air on a bed of blades, see the photos below. Also the curiosty of the Purple man, complete with his stop action windy dog in the basket ! - very clever. Another social in the evening organised by my dad, Barrie, A variety of games from Bingo - which seemed to upset Duncan a little, don't know why ! - then a curious game of OY ! one of the games won by Joan - a fix maybe???? Monday and time to take down the marquees, quiet quick and easy especially considering the wind, thanks to everyone for their help.

All in all a very enjoyable weekend, so much so I'm going back this weekend to catch the end of the 10 day meet.

See you soon
Richard, Michael and Aaron.

Well what a meet. When we arrived on Friday tea time, I couldn’t believe my eyes as we came over the hill. A field full of vans and motor homes. (Good job the staff had saved a place for the Chairman) We must thank Ivan, Iris, Keith & Hazel for helping out on friday. After the welcome cuppa it was time for a quick bite then off to the club to taste the local brew. (Not very local actually. Don’t think Stella is brewed in York).

Saturday was fine but quite windy. The tent gang wrestled with there erection. (Leave it) Thanks to them all. I ran the Social on Saturday night which seemed to go down well. Sunday was still dry as some of the golf crew went for a round leaving the rest of us to have a coffee morning. It was Barrie and Richards turn to host the social on Sunday evening. If you were there you will have seen the unveiling of the Webb’s new Bingo Programme for the lap top. (Not bad I suppose. Needs a little work but I think we got the idea?) I’m not green HONEST!!!!! Well done to all involved, Once again we had a brill night.

Monday saw the marquees come down with a little help from a lot of people. Thanks we needed it, as the wind was still blowing quite hard. Sandra, Sharron, Steve and I Went for a stroll into York early Monday evening and had a nice drink sat outside as the weather had turned quite nice. When we arrived back on site we had a get together in our Sandra’s awning to celebrate our Daniels birthday.

The rest of the week was filled with the odd shopping trip or three. And the odd game of Golf or two. Sandra and I had to leave early on Thursday morning as we had a prior engagement. (That sounds very grand). We left the site still with plenty of units on and still slowly coming in. I think the final figure was in the region of 124 units over the duration of the meet. This has been Caldervale’s biggest meet since our 2002 FOL at Carlton Towers.

First of all a big thanks must go to Barrie. Not only for his hard work as one of the stewards but also for all the time spent fetching and carrying the two tents from venue to venue. Some people may forget that all this goes on behind the scenes. Also we must thank Joan, Sandra1, Sharron and Steve who all worked hard during the meet. I hope this meet can continue in the future as it should prove to be a lucrative meet for our area.
Well Done

Duncan & Sandra
