A meet not to be missed.
Hi . Me again.
Shepley This weekend.
What a brill meet. I decided to take advantage of the early start to this meet and arrived after work on Thursday night. Only time to set up and then it was time to get my head down for work on Friday. Off site at 6.00am Back on at 6.00pm to find a good turn out of about 27 vans. We were a bit squashed but as at all meets the Stewards have to work with what the land owner gives them.
After a bite to eat it was off to the local for a pint or 3. with Sharron & Steve and a few others. Sandra wasn’t with me this weekend as she had entered for the Race for life cancer charity on Sunday morning.
Saturday came and the weather was fine and dry but a little chilly for the time of year. After a lazy day it was time to meet in the tent for the Pie & Pea supper provided by our stewards Audrey & Ted. And very nice it was too. Audrey asked for donations for the food which amounted to £41.00 which they donated to the Air Ambulance. A big thanks for that. After the supper I did my coffee morning announcements as we would not have time on Sunday. This is the first coffee morning I have done with half a bottle of red wine inside me and it showed. As you may have noticed my mouth was a few seconds in front of my brain as I thanked Audrey & Ted for the Pie & Plop supper. Well it made a change. Ted decided to get his instrument out again (they cant touch you for it) Once again he had his backing group. We should give the group a name. Why not the symbolics. Ted can be Sym, and the rest of us can be a load off b--------.
Sunday morning and it was an early start for some of us to get the car boot sale started. About 7 or 8 stalls in total. Thanks must go to all the members who lent a hand through out the morning. With all the things we sold, the small stall charge and the generous donations from members who had spent a lot of time and effort making things to sell we made £121.11. We made a donation to the Tractor rally charity from this. All in all over the weekend we added about £130.00 to The Air ambulance fund which takes us over the £2000.00 mark. Well done to you all.
The Tractor rally was very successful this year. With all sorts of ages and size tractors attending as you can see from the photos. Richard, Aaron and Sarah got an un expected ride in one of the trailers. 4 hours was a long ride. (A few black and blue bums when they got back) I think every body enjoyed the day and the rain held off which was a bonus.
After a bite to eat with Sharron & Steve, it was time for me to pack up and head off home.
Once again Thanks to all who gave up there time on Sunday to help out. A big thanks must go to Audrey and Ted for Stewarding and for arranging the Car Boot licence at the last minute.
See you all soon.
Duncan
Hello everyone,
just back from Sheppley after a long weekend. We went on Friday, but the site started on Thursday, We had just got our porch awning up when it started to rain , it didn’t last long so we decided to go for a walk down to the village, and guess what happened, right , it started to rain again, luckily we had the brolly so we didn’t get too wet, but it didn’t last long again so those coming latter didn’t get wet setting up. Saturday we didn’t do much at all except enjoy the sun and go for a walk. Saturday evening Audrey & Ted our hosts for the weekend had arranged a pie & peas supper in our old tent, what a state it was in glad we have our new ones, after supper we paid our dues for the weekend as there wouldn’t be time on Sunday morning because of the Tractor Rally and our car boot sale, again organised by Audrey, Well done for that. We managed to raise enough for our Air Ambulance appeal so that I think we have cleared the £2,000 mark.
On Sunday morning we were up and setting our stall up for the car boot sale the first I have done, I managed to sell some of my unwanted items and also some of my wood turnings, that means I can now make some more to fill up the space left. The weather was fine for the tractor fun run and some of our braver members went in the trailers behind the tractor and suffered a hard bouncy ride. The rest of the weekend was free and easy which we enjoyed sitting and talking in the sun. Thanks again to Audrey & Ted for a good weekend. Finally on our way home we had a phone call to let me know that we had won a prize on the tractor raffle. So I have had to rely on Audrey & Ted collecting the prize for me. It’s a bottle of Whiskey and she told me that she won’t drink any and water it down, I will have to wait and see and test it out (can’t wait). Thanks again to all who came and enjoyed our meet. See you next weekend at BARNSDALE BAR
bye for now Joan & Barrie
