Social saturday night in tent.

Well Hi Yawl

Another Sunday night. Another bottle of red wine and a meet report to do. Where can I start? At the beginning I hear you scream. Ok then here we go.
I arrived at Cherry Tree Farm on Thursday evening about 6 ish. The weather was very nice and the field looked in good condition despite the recent wet weather we had seen. After setting my van up I went to Misterton to pick up the tent that Phil had kindly stored for us. Just enough light left for me to put the signs out before our Sandra arrived, and after a quick cuppa and a chat it was time to get our heads down.

Friday morning came and the weather was dry to start with.  I took advantage of the nice morning to get the little tent up for the welcome Tea & Coffee. Hazel & Keith arrived mid morning and we set about getting both the big tents up. From about mid day we had a steady flow of vans. 26 in all which is a good turn out I suppose. Only 7 Caldervale members though, which I find disappointing. We had a good turn out of visitors many from SYDA. The weather on Friday afternoon was very wet to say the least. Thanks must go to all who helped to put the tents up in very bad conditions. Friday night and a few of us took the short walk to the local hostelry for a swift well deserved pint or 3.

Saturday morning and the weather forecast was fine and dry for a change. I will be honest; I was worried because we had not done much planning for this meet but I needn’t have been. As usual all the members present got stuck in and in no time we were set up for the Air Ambulance Fund raising afternoon. We had numerous stalls as usual. A BBQ and a raffle that was second to none. At 1.30 Mark Perry from The Air Ambulance arrived. He gave us a first class insight into the day to day workings of the Air Ambulance operation. He also answered a lot of questions from the members about the ins and outs of The Air Ambulance. After his talk I presented Mark with a cheque for £2000.00 which is what we have accumulated over the last 2 years.

All in all we had a wonderful afternoon. Through the kind generosity of all who attended we made a grand total of £276.71 on the day which will go towards our next donation.
Saturday night and the weather turned a bit cool. We all gathered in the tent to sample another one of my socials. I think it went well as most people seemed to have a ball.

Sunday morning and dry yet again. Two days in a row, Was this our summer??? The usual coffee morning at 11.00 in the tent with me banging on as usual. We finished of with The Chairman of SYDA saying a few words. He praised Caldervale & South Yorkshire for making him and all his members feel very welcome on our meet. He added that all his members had had a very enjoyable weekend.
All that was left to do was take the tents down and pack everything away. This doesn’t sound much when you say it, but in reality we are talking about taking 3 tents down and shipping them to the next meet.

As I always say after a big meet like this, We could not run this type of meet without the help of many people. Not only people on site but not to forget the ones that came for the day who were not vanning. A very big thank you goes to you all for all your hard work from Sandra and myself.
We are an Area that people outside think is massive. As you all know we are not. When we put on a meet like this, all involved should feel proud of what we have achieved. WELL DONE.
Hope to see you all at Haxey next week.

Duncan

Hello again,  just back from our weekend at Hatfield .When we arrived on Friday lunch time it was doing its usual weather effects(rain again).
Duncan had managed to put up the top frame for the tents which gave us a start in putting them up after we had set up ourselves. We managed without getting too wet and with the assistance of one or two visitors we soon had everything in place which left us free to go to the local hostelry in the evening. It had even stopped raining and we hoped it was a good sign for Saturday for our Air Ambulance fund raising.

We had a lot of visitors from South Yorkshire DA as their meet at Ingbirchworth had been  cancelled due to the weather so gave us about 26 vans on site which made a great difference to our weekend. We had a nice day weather wise on Saturday morning and it gave us a very pleasant day to set up our stalls and get the bar-b-que going. The guest from the Air Ambulance arried just after we had started on Saturday afternoon, he gave us an insite into the running of the ambulance which we all found interesting, after which we presented him with a cheque for £2,000.
After the presentation we went back to having fun and games and the Bar-b-que and managed to raise quite a lot of cash and eat all the burgers and bangers so had to go out and get some more for the cooks and servers.

Saturday evening Duncan put on a social and we had plenty of fun gueaaing the pub name from the drawings that everyone had done, some were very good and took some working out and some gave us more to laugh about than others( well done to Kevin he had us all guessing and gave us a good laugh, we wont forget no 6 for a while). The music quiz doesn't get any easier even after hearing it for I think the 3rd time( I will have to write down the answers and hide them away for future reference). The American supper was once again a great successthanks to all who loaded the table and helped to empty it.

Sunday morning started foggy but soon brightened up and we had our ussual coffee morning with Caldervale members getting a reduction in fees as agreed by the committee as a thank you for being a member of C&SY BCC.
After coffee morning we started to take down the tents and managed to get the new one down dry ready for storrage till next year. Eventually we had to go home and left about 4 o'clock. A big THANK YOU to all our visitors for helping us to have a great weekend and raise more cash for the AIR AMBULANCE
well done to you all.   See you all next weekend at Haxey quays  Bye for now
Barrie & Joan
