Golf course and driving range nearby, pub opposite. Fishing on site.
Hello.
This week we have paid our first visit of the 2008 season to Haxey Quays with our hosts Sandra, Hazel and Keith.
Once again I took advantage of the Thursday start and took our van on Thursday night and went to work from there on Friday.
When Sandra and I arrived back on site on Friday evening we was greeted by the usual Caldervale welcome with a cuppa and a chat. A good number of vans this week with about 18 in total a good mixture of members and guests.
Sharron, Steve, Sandra and myself decided to have our tea at the local across the road, And very nice it was too. I can recommend it for the next time we are here in a few weeks time. Later in the evening we were joined by a few others from the weekend alcoholic society for our weekly meeting. Thanks to you all for a nice night.
Saturday morning and the weather was glorious. No work for Steve or myself this week, so we joined the rest of the golfers for 18 holes on the Misterton course across the road from the site. Wow it was a hot one. 18 holes, 5 miles (according to Ted’s pedometer) and 5 hours later we had finished. Quite busy on the course but I think we all enjoyed the round. Whilst we played golf, the ladies had a trip out with our Sandra to a garden center with a number of the residents from her nursing home. Our ladies had volunteered to push the wheel chairs for the OAP’s. From what we can gather our ladies had a ball, not quite sure the OAP’s knew what had hit them. Well in the end all our volunteers returned to site and I think the head count at the home was ok, so a good time was had by all, wasn’t it Audrey? Just time for a quick BBQ for tea before the social started at 8.00.
Keith and hazel had a few things planed for our entertainment. Bingo, Chinese Bingo, a name the face Quiz and according to Keith a very easy General knowledge quiz. Well all I can say is if that’s an easy one I don’t want to be on site when he hits us with his hard one. (Does that sound rude. Sorry I didn’t mean it to. Apparently he hasn’t had a hard one for ages. Can I say that???? Sorry just did.) Well back to the story. Many thanks go to Keith and Hazel for a very enjoyable night. Well done.
Sunday morning came and the weather was wonderful yet again. Two weeks on the trot. “I don’t believe it” as some one once said. Guess what time we had the Coffee morning. Yes 11-00 just for a change. All the usual announcements plus a little bit more regarding 2009 sites and stewards etc. (Hope you all bombarded Sharron volunteering as stewards when she returned on site).
It was a quick get away for Sandra and my self after the Coffee morning as we were going to the speedway in Sheffield in the afternoon. As we left, the tent team were busy taking the big tent down and storing it for the next meet on this site. Thanks to all who helped.
Once again we have been treated to a first class weekend. I think that I said this last year. If you don’t attend this site because you have heard that the entrance is bad or any other reason, You are missing out. I will go on record and say that I think the Exit from White House Farm in Misterton down the road is just the same as this one. Blind bend. Motor bikes doing stupid miles per hour. Try it, you might be surprised. Well that’s enough of my ranting.
A big thank you must go to our stewards this weekend. Hazel, Keith and Sandra. Not forgetting all who helped in any way over the weekend. Once again we had a lot of praise from our visitors for being made so welcome. That’s why Caldervale has a good name. No one ever goes away feeling un welcome. Even Charlie. (Sorry mate)
Well done to you all and hope to see a good turn out next week at Drax

Hello again, back from Haxey Quays meet with our hosts Sandra Hazel & Keith.
We started off on Friday with some fine sun and managed to get the tent up as far as the legs before tea. After tea we finished it off and later on went for a little liquid refreshment at the local.Saturday morning was once again fine and dry with sun coming out a little later. Our golf crew(of which we have now got 8 players) went for a game, and left the ladies to go with Sandra to Brigg garden centre to push wheel chairs and have a good day out with the oldies.Saturday evening we were entertained by Keith And Hazel with Bingo & a quiz or two and an American supper.
We had quite a few visitors which it's nice to see & hope you all enjoyed the evening & weekend, and hope to see you again.Sunday morning was again fine and dry we had our usual coffee morning and paid our fees followed by a discussion about next year's sites which went on for quite a while. After lunch we had to take down the tent which was by then nice and dry,we have left it there till next time so it made it easier than taking it home.
Sunday afternoon saw quite a few leaving for home ready for work on Monday but We didn't go this time we stayed till Monday hoping for a good day but as usual it rained Sunday evening and just about all day Monday. As you can see from the pictures we have a fisherman who loves specimen fishing, and just look what he managed on a 4lb.line. That's one for the record album if ever I saw one. When we left on Monday in the rain Arther was still trying for an even bigger one before he went home.Let me know if you managed it and I will put it on paper next time. Thanks to all who came ,hope you enjoyed the weekend and hope to see you all next weekend.
Bye for now Joan & Barrie
