This week Caldervale had a free weekend as usual for the Notts DA Goose Fair Meet.
We had 12 vans booked in on the block booking. Our Sandra couldn’t attend as our Debz was in hospital. ( She’s felling a lot better now, thanks goes to all who asked about her.) Audrey & Ted went in her place. Unfortunately Albert & Audrey couldn’t make it as he has just had an operation on his leg. (Hope that you are feeling a lot better now Albert)
We arrived on Friday night at about 6-45 to find all the rest of our crew already on site. After setting up we went for our Tea with Sharron & Steve to the various catering vans on site. After tea we just had to sample the hospitality of the staff in the beer tent. ( Well it would be rude not to, wouldn’t it?) We had a good night. Meeting up with some of our usual Friday night alcoholics and a few faces we don’t see so much of. Sharron had her fair share of white wine. We just managed to get her back to her van. She only fell on the floor twice I think. ( These young ones cant take it can they?)
Saturday morning came and the weather was very cold and windy. We all wrapped up and braved the elements and had a walk around the trade area. Once again a good turn out of various stalls and vans to look around. We had a good look around before taking our dinner back to the van.( Fish & Chips for me. As usual Frisbys catering doing the biz. Mouth watering)
I had a good kip in the afternoon before going out to see the show in the main marquee. The Mad Hatters comedy group was the first offering of the evening. I think we all had a laugh although I think a few of the jokes went above some peoples heads. After The mad Hatters we just had time to visit the Beer tent before being entertained by a good all round male vocalist. We had a very entertaining night.( Sharron made it home under her own steam for a change).
Sunday morning came and so did the rain. It rained all night in fact. We decided to give the Medieval Market a miss due to the weather. We did attend the closing ceremony and the raffle draw which was moved inside the main marquee. No luck with the Raffle or any of the other draws that were made. After a quick coffee it was time to pack up and head home. As usual the weather changed and it was brilliant sunshine as we packed up.
Once again Notts DA have managed to put on a first class meet in not so good weather conditions. We didn’t see much of our members but I think all who attended had a good time.
I hope that we get a good turn out next week at Barnburgh with Barrie & Joan for our Area FOL.
See you then
Duncan.
