Hello
I have to write this regarding the dinner weekend at Drax sports club. What a great weekend! Saturday morning and five of us went to play golf while the shopping crew went off on there rounds. Saturday night we all went in for our meal not knowing what to expect, but what a meal those who did not go missed a night to remember the food was spot on nothing to complain about except Joan did not get any mashed spuds at first but that was soon sorted. They had put up a christmas tree, crackers and a candle on the table. The staff really went to town for us. Then after the meal off we went into the concert room for a nights entertainment.
So thanks to all who arrange it and i hope we will be back there next year.
Robin and Janet.
Hi All
Well if you missed this one you missed a treat. As you know we decided to change the venue for our dinner this year as we thought that the atmosphere at Eggborough left a little to be desired. What a good move.
We arrived on Friday night after work and after a bite to eat we met the other revellers in the club at about 9-30. We had good old chin wag, catching up on the weeks events. A good night was had by all as we hit the sack in anticipation for what lay in store on Saturday.
The weather was a little gray and damp on Saturday morning, but that didn’t stop the golf crew going for a game on our favourite course. After the over night rain the ground was very wet which made for very unforgiving and difficult conditions. Well that’s my excuse for all my bad shots. Not to worry though, we all enjoyed our round as usual and thanks go to the golf society for a very nice morning. As we played golf the shopping crew did what they are good at. A little retail outlet near Selby this week I believe. No reports of Joan getting them thrown out this week so I think all went well.
The golfers decided to call in to the 19th for a spot of lunch which made a nice change. Steve and myself had a Burger to die for. I can recommend the club house for meals when we visit next season.
Well after my unexpected afternoon tipple I needed a quick kip before getting ready for the evenings festivities. We all met in the club at 7-00 for our meal. What a difference a little effort can make. The staff at Drax had provided us with a Christmas tree and crackers on the table. The room looked very nice and fit for an end of season dinner. We had a 4 choice menu with most going for the traditional turkey with all the trimmings. I didn’t hear anybody complain about the meal, It was wonderful and the staff at Drax should be congratulated. After the meal I announced the winner of the Bandstand Clock for attending the most meets throughout the season. Once again this was won by Joan & Barrie. 23 meets out of 25. Now that’s what I call dedication. After I had presented them with the clock, Barrie dedicated it to Mum & Dad (Iris & Ivan) for the tireless work that they put in by Stewarding and helping to Steward so many meets throughout the season. Well done to both couples for your dedication to our area.
After the meal and presentation we all retired to the concert room to enjoy the entertainment that was on. Once again I think we all had a ball. A good duo singing a bit for everybody’s taste. All in all we had a superb night.
Sunday morning came and it was a little strange not to have to do my usual Sunday coffee morning. Most of us packed up early and made our way home.
Like I said in the first line, I f you missed this you missed a treat. I will be sending a letter to the staff at Drax Social Club thanking them for a brilliant night and placing a provisional booking for 2009. I would also like to thank Sharron & steve for organising this event. I know that many thought that the price of £19.99 each plus camping was quite steep, but I can assure you it was worth it.
Next year Sandra is going to start a savings club so that people can put a bit in each week so it isn’t such a big lay out all at once. I would love to see more of our members enjoying the evening with us.
Well that’s about it from me for a bit. My next report will be on the Christmas social. We hope to see you all there.
Duncan.
Hello all, the end of our year finished with our annual dinner at Drax. We arrived on Friday lunch time ,just behind our visitors, and set up camp and waited for the rest of the gang to arrive.Quite good weather for November but still a bit cold.Friday evening we went to the club to get a little
practice for Saturday evening. Saturday morning it was off for a round of
golf while the ladies did their usual shopping trip.
Saturday evening and it was time to go for our Dinner, what a change from last year at Eggborough. I think we were all that full we stayed quite a while in the dining room before we ventured into the main hall for a little dancing etc. After the dinner Duncan presented the clock for most attendances,I hadn't told Joan who had won it so it was a surprise when we won it for the second year. I had decided to pass the clock on to Iris & Ivan to show my appreciation of the number of times they had Stewarded meets this year even after a shakey start to the season health wise they have done us proud, so a big THANK YOU for standing in so often, well done. The evening was very enjoyable, I didn't get up to dance as I was still getting over the meal but CHARLEY got up as you can see from the picture I got of him dancing with Sharron, I think it was called the slosh or something like that. All in all it was a very good end to the season and I can't wait till it starts again next year.
Sunday morning we made our way home in quite strong wind.
Hope to see you all at the social in December, till then take care and don't
spend too much on my present.
Bye for now
JOAN & BARRIE
