Hello every body
Well off we go again. Another season started and what a way to start. A welcome return to West stockwith this weekend, and a welcome return to our stewards Myra & Brian.
I arrived on Friday tea time to find the wonderful sight of a field full of vans. 20 in all by the time everybody arrived.
I went for the welcome cuppa and a chin wag at the stewards van, and before I knew it Myra had filled my rollaballs and fire bucket for me. Now that’s what I call service.(Be careful Myra, You will be called a creep for sucking up to the chairman) Keep it up I say. Sandra arrived later as she was working late. After a quick bite to eat we went over the road to sample the hospitality of the Yacht club with a few family and friends. Unfortunately we were unable to all sit together but a good night was had by all.
Saturday morning came and the sun was shining. The golf crew went for a knock around misterton whilst the ladies descended on Gainsborough. After a enjoyable game of golf I decided to run a sweep as it was Grand National Day. How easy is it to run a sweepstake? Very I hear you shout. Well not when you have a half whit running it as you will read later. On Saturday night we all did our own thing. We had decided not to bring the tent with us as we didn’t know how much room we would have or what the weather was going to be like so early in the season. Hazel, Keith, Sandra and myself decided to pop across the road again for a few swift ones, We were joined later by Matt & Charlie. Another good night was had by all.
Sunday morning and the sun was still shining. The first Coffee morning of the year was held at 11-00am as usual. After welcoming the visitors and thanking the Stewards it was time for the presentation to the Sweep winner. That’s when I made a major cock up. I presented the winnings to Janet only to find out that it wasn’t Janet that had won but Jannett. What a dip stick. Sorry for that. I will try harder next time. Well it did give everybody a laugh which is what it is all about I suppose.
After coffee just time to grab a quick snack before packing up and leaving a little earlier than usual as we are going to see Dancing on Ice at the arena.
Well this has been a brill start to the new season. The weather has been kind and the site was better than expected as a lot of work was still on going on the new hard standings the week before we arrived. Thanks again to Brian & Myra for your efforts. No Meet next week so I look forward to seeing you all at Winterset.
Have a good Easter
Duncan.
