Hi all.
Just thought that I would fill you all in on our weekend with The Midland Area at the BCC AGM.
We decided this year to make a long weekend of it so we booked a couple of days off and went on Friday morning this time.
We set off in torrential rain which followed us all the way to Fradley which is south of Derby. Luckily the weather broke for us as we arrived ,just enough for us to set up and go for a cuppa with our hosts. To my surprise a lot of people were under the impression that I had been quite ill. It might be something to do with the little announcement that our dear web master put on our web site regarding Caldervales Chairman having a Major Operation. (Forgot to have a word about that Richard) Well after putting them right we caught up on all there ailments as you do at this type of meet.
Later in the afternoon Barrie and Joan arrived followed at tea time by Robin and Janet. That night we went into the hall for a free and easy get together to catch up with all the gossip from around the areas.
A lot of Saturday for me was taken up with meetings but the rest of our crew went for a stroll down the canal to Fradley Junction to see the barges. It wasn’t possible to dodge the frequent heavy down pours but I think they all enjoyed the walk.
Saturday Night and we all went to the Hall for a 3 course meal prepared by the Midland Area. £3.50 for Soup, A large Salad and a choice of sweets to finish with. Well worth the money. After the food had settled it was time for the dancing. Our table didn’t do much dancing but Barrie did serenade Joan with a song. (Get a room you two) Once again a very enjoyable evening.
Sunday morning came and it was time for the AGM. Nothing much to report really. A fairly quiet affair as AGM’s go. The main thing is that we did get a couple of volunteers to host the 2011 FOL. Not quit sure which one will be doing it yet but I can tell you it will be back fairly local. I had to attend another meeting after the AGM but this was only a short one. When I arrived back on site we decided to have another stroll down the canal as I hadn’t seen any thing of the surrounding area since we arrived. Soon after we set of down came the rain again. Not to worry, It didn’t spoil a very nice walk. On the way back to the site we had to run the gauntlet as we were in danger of being attacked by a Swan guarding its eggs. It had a go at us but Joan protected us with her umbrella. Well I tell a little lie there. Her and Sandra run like hell leaving me to fend it off whilst Barrie waited with camera in hand to get an action shot of it having a go at me.
We got back to the site in one piece eventually to find a lot had started to leave for home including Janet and Robin (sorry we missed you). It was nice for a change to be one of the ones stopping on site whilst others left. Now I know how you retired ones feel when you wave us off on a Sunday afternoon.
Sunday night and it was back in to the hall for another social. Its all go isn’t it? About 4 games of cash Bingo and a Quiz made for another good evening.
Monday morning and the weather wasn’t up to much again so after a little lie in and a bite to eat we decided to pack up and make our way home. All in all a very enjoyable weekend. Thanks go to Barrie & Joan and Robin & Janet for there company.
I will be contacting The Midland Area to congratulate them on a successful meet.
See you all soon
Duncan
