BCC FEAST OF LANTERNS MEET

THIS YEARS THEME : SCARECROWS

Bookings to Mrs M. Rutter, 65 Broadway Avenue , Wallasey, Wirral. CH45 6TB

Hi All

Sandra and I arrived on the FOL site on Wednesday after a very enjoyable few days down the road on the pre meet. Jack & Margaret were first on site on Thursday closely followed by the rest of the crew from the pre meet. Later we were joined by the rest who had booked for Thursday. The weather was dry but quite windy as I remember. Friday saw a steady stream of vans coming on to our lines. 14 members units in total with 8 visitors units who had requested to join our lines. This shows how popular we are as an area. On Friday night some of us went up to the marquee to be entertained by a comedian and a Welsh male voice choir. A good night was had by all. After some over night rain we woke on Saturday to quite a nice morning. I had to attend a meeting at 9.00 but was back on site at 10-30 to help start the street scene. We had already done quite a lot of work on Friday, stuffing various scarecrows. We seemed to get things done quickly this year and the 999 themed street was finished in no time. I had been asked by North Wales BCC to present the Miss Rosebud and Young camper competitions on Saturday afternoon which I did. I was a little nervous at first but soon got into it and enjoyed every moment. Well done to all the kids who took part. As well as the main street scene, Individuals had obviously been busy at home with awning displays and thing for in between the vans. After it eventually went dark the street lit up and we had a steady stream of people to look around. Once again we was inundated with compliments on our efforts. Janet collected £105.00 for the Air Ambulance in here little grotto. Most people think we are a massive area with hundreds of members. 14 vans did all the work this year and I am proud to be your Chairman. Thank you all.

Sunday came and so did the sun again. We all set about taking down and skipping all the hard work that we did on Saturday. Some of us attended the members meeting before Barrie, Robin and myself went to the local supermarket to get some booze for the usual get together at tea time. I had another meeting to go to at 2.00 so the team put the tent up against our awning. We had a lovely tea provided by all who attended and a nice drink provided by the area. Monday came so we all put our fancy dress back on for the pennon parade and the closing ceremony. Our Sandra won first prize on the raffle which was a very big food hamper. On Sunday night we went to the marquee to watch the umpah band from Huddersfield would you believe. Very entertaining I must say.

Tuesday morning and time to pack up and move on. We moved to the post meet with a few others whilst the rest of the family went to Anglesey. The first few days of the post meet was very wet and windy but it picked up as the week went on and we all had a very nice time. We managed to get a few games of golf in plus a bit of shopping for the ladies. All in all we have had a good holiday with family and friends. The weather could have been better but we didn’t let it spoil our fun.

See you all soon

Duncan.
