Committee meeting at 6pm Friday evening
Bonfire meet - Please bring food donations towards supper in barn on saturday night after bonfire. Always a great weekend.
Bonfire meet report
Well that’s another season over, what will I do on a Sunday night. We have caped this year off with our Bonfire meet at Glebe Farm. We took the van on Thursday night as Sandra and Sandra was seeing the vans on on Friday as I had to work. When I got on site on Friday I found a good number of vans had arrived. By the time we finished we ended up with 19 vans. As I promised on the night, I will not mention that Sandra and Steve forgot there van keys so Steve had to go all the way home for them. Wont mention it again, promise. We held our final committee meeting of the season in our van which took up most of the evening. The minutes of this meeting are available for all to see. If you want a copy just give me a ring and I will send you a copy as we might not see you till next year.
Saturday came and after a little over night rain it cleared to leave a very nice day indeed. Playing golf in a tee shirt on the last day of October, if this is global warming then bring it on. The boys had another very enjoyable round. Barrie had a special bonus, when we realised that the young lady taking the fees had a soft spot for him. (Well when I say young lady, what I really mean is this old bird that had just escaped from the local OAP home.) Well it put a smile on his face. When we arrived back on site the ladies were out shopping for the food for the supper. The boys went to the barn to set up the tables and chairs. (Well when I say boys what I really mean is the blokes that aren’t quite as old as Barrie’s new bird.) Well we all did a sterling job and a big thanks to you all. As night fell we all met at the top of the field for the Bonfire and the fireworks. The weather was still very mild. Steve and myself organised the firework display as usual whilst Barrie lit the fire. Afterwards we all met in the barn for the supper. Once again it was a feast to behold. Mums soup, Pie & Peas, (Donated by Dave and Shellie. Cheers for that) and all the Perkin and toffee that you could eat. Thanks to all who donated to this feast.
We all went to bed and the weather was still dry and mild. Then came the rain and loads of it. Wet to say the least. At 11-00 we all met in the barn for my final coffee morning as your chairman. All the usual announcements and banter. The raffle and donations made £40.00 which was split between our charity, The Air Ambulance and the farmer’s charity The Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Soon after the coffee morning the sun came out as forecast but the wind was very strong. Most took the opportunity to pack up in the dry and head off home.
Once again we have had a very successful Bonfire meet. A big thank you must go to all who helped with this meet.
See you all at Drax.
Duncan.
Hi there, back from our last meet of the year AH AH. I still can't believe its nearly the last day of October, the weather is still so nice ,if it stays till Christmas and then gets better I won't mind at all. Thanks to Sandra & Duncan for hosting the meet helped by the rest of the family. Friday evening was our last committee meeting of the year and we didn't have a lot to discuss as things have gone very well all year, it still took us most of the evening before we called time.
Saturday the golfers went for a round again in fine warm weather. The ladies went off shopping for the evening goodies. When we got back we went to the barn to set up the tables etc ready for the evening. We started the evening off with our bonfire and firework show,(thanks to the farmer for providing the firewood)it soon got quite warm while watching the fireworks but not many stayed to enjoy the fire before going to the barn for supper.
The evening in the barn went down very well and a big thank you to Shelly & Dave for providing the pies, and to everyone else who brought toffee parkin etc.and a big thanks to the ladies for serving the soup etc.
Sunday morning the weather finally took a turn for the worse with rain and wind. After coffee morning in the barn where we drew the raffle and paid our dues, the rain had almost stopped so we didn't get wet going back to our vans. It dried up altogether but the wind didn't go away before it was time to go home.
Thank you all for a very good year's camping and hope to see most at the dinner at Drax. If we don't see you there may I wish you all the best of health and happiness for next year and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
JOAN & BARRIE
