PANCAKE PARTY INDEED! Well, what a weekend...Friday evening we arrived a little later than we wanted to. Work (that awful four-letter-word) got in the way, so by the time we had got set up and sorted, had coffee with Sandra, our very able steward, everyone was too tired to go to the pub. Which was a shame, because we have heard rave reviews about the real ale there. However...the site is beautiful, with glorious views - even a fantastic one of Emley Mast, that Grade II listed tower just a few miles away. Saturday morning, we took a trip to Huddersfield, where there was a food and drink festival in St Georges Square. Lots of different foods to choose from, real ales and proper ciders to boot. We didn't eat, but had a pint of Farmer's Blonde inbetween shopping. We got back to site and the big tent was up ready for the Pancake Party (Eddy missed it again). At 1.30pm everyone started to congregate and we had our pancakes "expertly" cooked by the men. Thanks to Sandra for resurrecting this (although it was OUR first time) and to the guys for cooking - they were lovely :) Evening came and we had something called barbecued toast....I have never experienced this before, but it was gorgeous! What is it about charcoal, smoke and black bits on bread that make it so delicious? Again a big thanks to Sandra for organising it and to Barrie who worked tirelessly over the hot coals to produce mountains of toast - and of course to our Chairperson Duncan and others - for running around delivering the said goods. I have been on many rallies over the years; most have organised cycle rides, or walks - something healthy and outdoorsy, but not Caldervale! No - it's all about the food and drink - and who can argue?! We got so engrossed with it all, we forgot to photograph it, but you get the picture, right? We had another great social - Chinese Bingo is one I have never heard of, then Play Your Cards Right and the 10-20-30 second game... don't know what that's called, but it was interesting! Needless to say, we had another fabulous weekend and we are looking forward to our next outing with Caldervale & South Yorks - goodness knows what will happen next! Great weekend, great company, great food! Teresa & Eddy Teresa Hooker
